Resolution Regarding Department of Justice’s Proposed Rules on ADA Website and Mobile App Accessibility

In September 2023, as President of Coastline College’s Associated Student Government, I led the passage of a resolution urging the Department of Justice to remove Exception 5 from its Proposed Rules on ADA Website and Mobile App Accessibility. This exception would have exempted course content on password-protected platforms from accessibility requirements, negatively affecting disabled students in distance learning environments.

As a result of our advocacy, the Department of Justice accepted the resolution and removed Exception 5 from the proposed rule, ensuring that all content on learning platforms must now meet accessibility standards from the point of creation.
